Overcoming Misconfigurations in Infrastructure Case Study

January 2000

The Company

A wealth management client of about 25 users, and one server spread out across 4 sites was in an unstable condition when they contacted us.

The Problem

There were many misconfigurations in their infrastructure. They had paid for a dual homed internet connection in order to the have benefits of both speed and reliability. However, all of their Home Office traffic was going out over the low speed, high reliability link thus not taking advantage of the performance they were paying for. They had made investments in server infrastructure that were not being leveraged for file sharing, but instead they were using Drop Box at an additional monthly cost. The phone system and firewall were misconfigured, allowing phone attacks that were at most, likely attempts at toll fraud, but at the very least making the telephone system nearly unusable to do an inbound call volume of 10+ calls per minute, overwhelming bandwidth, available lines, and the ability of employees to separate the ‘wheat from the chaff’ to handle real customer calls.

  • Internet Speed and Reliability
  • Server Infrastructure for File Sharing
  • Phone System and Firewall

The Solution

These issues were all resolved by reconfiguring their existing server, firewall and phone system to be functional, secure and efficient.
